South Maui

South Maui consists primarily of the towns Ma'alaea, Kihei, Wailea and Makena. Kihei offers a wide variety of condominium vacation rentals, popular with families, while Wailea offers some of the most luxurious resorts, golf courses and restaurants on Maui. South Maui is often referred to as 'the desert side' of Maui due to its higher average temperatures and lower annual rainfall. For this reason it is very popular with beach lovers and sunbathers. South Maui temperatures average between 65 - 89 degrees in the summer and 63 - 84 degrees in the winter. Average rainfall in South Maui is 4/10 of an inch in the summer and 2 inches in the winter.

Big Beach ~ Makena

Big Beach in Makena is known for its often high surf which attracts surfers and boogie borders during the day. This large sandy beach is almost 2/3 of a mile long and over 100 yards wide. There is a smaller section of the beach connected by a path on the right, known as "Little Beach". The division between Big Beach and Little Beach was caused by a lava flow and earthquake in 1790. The hill dividing the beaches is called Pu'u Ola'i or Earthquake Hill. Just off to the other end of Big Beach is a beautiful mix of palm trees, white sand beach and scattered lava rocks trailing out into the ocean.

The area is sheltered from the wind and affords beautiful views of the ocean and Kihei town.

La Perouse Bay

Located in the protected 'Ahihi Kina'u Natural Area Reserve, La Perouse Bay is a beautiful lava rock beach formed by the only recorded eruption of the Haleakala volcano over 200 years ago. The drive to the bay and the bay itself are reminiscent of the barren landscape of what Mars or the moon may feel like. There is little vegetation, but the stark contrast of rock and sea make this a very unique wedding location.

Makena Cove

Also known as 'Secret Beach', this location has become increasingly popular for weddings given its unique combination of white sand beach, dramatic lava rocks, palm trees and tropical foliage. This location offers breathtaking views of Molokini and Kaho'olawe, and offers a gorgeous backdrop for your ceremony at any time of day. Given the small, intimate nature of this beach location it is only suitable for small weddings with no more than 10 people.

Makena Surf

Often called 'Heart Rock Beach' for the abundance of coral and sea rocks that wash ashore here ~ many of which are shaped like hearts. This beach is primarily visited by vacation renters during the day, and is often very quiet at sunset. During low tide periods, this beach offers many interesting wedding locations due to the many large rock formations that flank its sides.

North Malu'aka

Located just north of the Maui Prince Resort in Makena, North Malu'aka offers a great view of Kaho'olawe, Molokini and the West Maui Mountains. This location offers a bit more privacy than its Southern companion during the evening, perfect for a simple beach ceremony.

Paipu Beach

A very secluded beach next to Po'olenalena accessible by a tricky lava rock trail makes a perfect location for those looking for a private, pristine white sand beach and contrasting lava rocks trailing into the ocean. This beach is not easily accessible, and is recommended for smaller, more intimate ceremonies.

Po'olenalena

Located between Wailea and Makena, this 1/2 mile stretch of white sand beach offers a bit more privacy as well as gorgeous ocean and island views. South Malu'aka

Perfectly situated on the south side of the Maui Prince Resort in Makena, this single location offers many fabulous choices for your wedding ceremony. If available, a private, enclosed circle of topical plants and shrubbery shelters you and up to 10 guests in a quaint tropical location with glimpses of the ocean. Also, located here is a gorgeous sea-cliff that sets you above it all and affords astounding views of Maui and its neighboring islands. If you are set on the beach for your ceremony, the southern end of South Malu'aka offers a large banyan tree perched above a soft white sand beach and a stunning lava rock formation that stretches out to sea. Keep an eye out for the many green sea turtles that call South Malu'aka their home.

Tiki Beach

This very small and intimate beach earns its name from the two large Tiki statue totem poles that grace the entrance to this beach. Located at the very south end of Sugar Beach, this beach can become almost completely consumed during high tide. However, during low tide this romantic spot is one of the most unique accessible beaches on Maui.

Ulua Beach

Both Ulua and Mokapu Beaches are accessed publicly by the same path, with Ulua being the more popular of the two, and was once listed as one of the Top 10 Most Beautiful Beaches in America. This beach was named for an offshore island and bird sanctuary that was destroyed during WWII artillery practice. Now, Ulua beach offers excellent swimming during the day given its gently sloping sandy bottom, and provides a wonderfully scenic backdrop for wedding ceremonies.

Wailea Beach

Situated between the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons resorts in Wailea, this beach is very active during the day with tourists running, swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing. However, during sunset, this beach is typically much quieter and offers a generous stretch of white sandy beach flanked on the left by a large lava rock outcrop that tapers gently into the ocean. The view is impeccable and the location is easily accessible.

Wailea Lawn

Located adjacent to Wailea beach, this unique grassy lawn area rises sharply on a hill that overlooks the ocean and Wailea Beach. Adding to the drama of this location are several tall palm trees that seem to rise forever and provide a sense of royalty atop this well manicured area. The lawn itself is seldom used by tourists, but this location is best suited for early morning or sunset weddings.

West Maui

West Maui primarily consists of the towns of Kapalua, Kaanapali and Lahaina, with the latter being the largest. Lahaina has been the center of life on Maui for centuries, and is the town most people think about when they think of Maui. Lahaina is historic and cultural, as well as pleasant and picturesque. Lahaina was home to Hawaii's kings and queens, merchants and whalers, whose legacy is this paradise. West Maui temperatures average between 64 - 84 degrees in the summer and 67 - 88 degrees in the winter. Average rainfall in West Maui is 1 inch in the summer and 3 1/2 inches in the winter.

Baby Beach ~ Lahaina

Protected by a long off-shore reef system, this small pebble and sand beach in Lahaina is called 'Baby Beach' due to its lake-like surf, and is a popular beach for families with small children. Apart from swimming, there are virtually no other suitable water-sports here, making this beautiful stretch of beach more quiet and pristine. Baby beach also offers glimpses of the West Maui Mountains, palm trees and other tropical foliage, along with many sailboats that flock to the Lahaina harbor.

D.T Flemming Beach ~ Kapalua

Adjacent to the Ritz~Carlton, Kapalua, this beach is popular with boogie-boarders and body-surfers during the day. Also, popular for picnics and sunbathing, this beach provides the best ambience for weddings in the early morning hours since the sun sets at the far right end of the beach.

Ironwoods Beach ~ Oneloa Bay

Officially known as Oneloa Bay, this beautiful stretch of beach is primarily visited by few vacation renters and property owners adjacent to this beach, and is typically less crowded than the nearby DT Flemming Beach and Kapalua Bay. The beach itself is accessed by a paved downhill path with several sets of stairs, making it ideal for smaller, more intimate ceremonies. Also, this beach faces North-East, so this site is typically not ideal for sunset weddings.

Kapalua Bay

One of the most popular snorkeling beaches on the island, this beautiful bay is most quiet during the early morning hours and the combination of the turquoise water and blue skis are simply stunning. There are also many palm trees and other tropical plants lining the back of this beach that adds to the very tropical feel of this location.

Napili Bay

One of our favorite wedding locations on West Maui, Napili Bay offers a wide-range of topography from smooth lava rock on calm shores to sandy beach, all lined with palm trees and other tropical foliage. While the beach itself is rather crowded during the day, the lava rock point is typically not crowded and offers generous, sweeping views of the ocean and the neighboring island of Molokai.

Central Maui

Central Maui's main towns are Wailuku and Kahului. Kahului is Maui's major port and hosts the airport, while Wailuku is the center of island government. There are cultural and recreational amenities here, but central Maui is best known for business and general purpose shopping. Central Maui's main attractions are the Maui Tropical Plantation, Maui Heritage Gardens and the Tropical Gardens of Maui. Central Maui Beaches are rough and rocky, and popular with surfers and wind-surfers. Central Maui temperatures average between 66 - 87 degrees in the summer and 63 - 83 degrees in the winter. Average rainfall in Central Maui is 1/2 of an inch in the summer and 3 inches in the winter.

Maui Heritage Gardens

Located in the lush 'Iao Valley, Kepaniwai Park's Heritage Gardens was established in 1952 as a showcase for Maui's diverse heritage with ethnic houses and gardens representing the Hawaiian, Portuguese, Japanese, Caucasian and Filipino cultures. In 1994 a community of volunteers completely restored the gardens to its original beauty. The cool waters of the 'Iao Stream flow through these gardens, feeding the ponds and small waterfalls constructed here. This tranquil, picturesque spot is perfect for your tropical, non-beach wedding ceremony.

Upcountry Maui

Upcountry Maui consists primarily of the towns Pukalani, Makawao, and Kula. The main attraction here is Haleakala State Park, the dormant volcano that stretches to over 10,000 feet high. Also located in upcountry Maui are botanical gardens, flower farms, ranches, art galleries and Maui's only vineyard that cluster around the towns on the slopes of the volcano. Upcountry Maui temperatures average between 44 - 72 degrees in the summer and 41 - 65 degrees in the winter. Average rainfall in Upcountry Maui is 2 inches in the summer and 6 inches in the winter.

Enchanting Floral Gardens

This incredible garden covers over 1500 species of tropical and semi-tropical plants and flowers from around the world. The garden has banks of glorious flowers that cover every square inch of the land, such as exotic proteas, orchids, hibiscus, jade vines and other varieties that are not found anywhere else in Maui. With the magnificent views of the ocean from this elevation, the gardens offer several unique wedding locations, from a quaint garden gazebo, to a vine-covered terrace, to the grand 'Stairway to Heaven', to a spacious grassy lawn area surrounded by tropical plants and trees.

Road to Hana

The Hana Highway, or 'The Road to Hana' is the only road to Hana, and passes through Pa'ia, Kaanae, Nahiku, Hana and Kipahulu. The road twists through rainforests and open land, revealing lush tropical foliage, natural waterfalls and pools, caves, and rocky sea cliffs. There are very few sandy beaches here, but the scenic ocean view here is unparalleled. East Maui temperatures average between 68 - 83 degrees in the summer and 64 - 80 degrees in the winter. Backcountry Maui

Backcountry Maui offers few very small towns and is seldom seen by visitors. The roads are very windy with many blind curves and one-lane bridges, and it is a violation of rental car contracts to traverse them. There are many spectacular views of the ocean here, and it is the ultimate in solitude on Maui. Backcountry Maui temperatures average between 65 - 89 degrees in the summer and 63 - 84 degrees in the winter. Average rainfall in Backcountry Maui is 1 inch in the summer and 3 inches in the winter.

Nakalele Blowhole

Located 8 miles north of Kapalua on the windy part of Hwy 30 is this gorgeous point overlooking the Nakalele Blowhole. The vast view of the ocean and steep, rocky sea cliffs from here are breathtaking, and when the surf and tide conditions are right, you can see the massive force of the spray from the blowhole. This location is extremely windy and not recommended for children or elderly guests.
